The IMA in 2013 launched an initiative for the development of Best Practice Guides for each of the industry's sectors to inform stakeholders – it is envisaged each guide will grow and be enhanced over time.

The IMA started with the Best Practice Guide - Repossessions (BPG - Repossessions) setting out issues of compliance and industry actual practice into an easy to read document to facilitate a more informed understanding by stakeholders of the actual processes associated with repossessions. The BPG - Repossessions is a benchmark and market tool for financial providers to use when choosing which agencies attend to their repossession assignments.

In 2017,  following extensive consultation with members, the IMA issued its Best Practice Guide - Process Serving (BPG – Process Serving) which was not intended to be an operations manual nor a service rule or affidavit manual but instead documents what members regard needs to be considered and addressed by those wanting to achieve best practice standards in the Process Serving Sector.
